Project Day 59 - Viewing Drywall & Installing Underground Electrical

A few days ago, we decided that we would change the interior colors for the majority of our home decor from blues and browns to greens and browns. At that point, we realized that the vinyl flooring color we chose for the bathrooms wouldn't coordinate. So, we called the builder and made an appointment to change the vinyl selection--thank goodness, it had not been ordered yet.

This morning was our appointment to select a the new vinyl. We made our obligatory stop at Mickey-Ds and then we were off to Comer, Georgia. The builder used to be about a 30-minute drive for us, but now it's an hour's drive. But, the countryside is relaxing and beautiful.

We arrived at 10 AM and chose a new pattern. Previously, Dave and I had chosen the same color for our respective bathrooms, but in different patterns. This time, we chose the same pattern and color.

Here's a photo of the vinyl, but it's hard to capture the true colors in a photo. It looks really gray in these photos, but it is actually muted shades of gray, brown, and green.

We had a nice chit-chat with LaVonne and Cindy (their new assistant--she's just as friendly and helpful as the rest of the builder's team) and then we were off to the property to check out the drywall that has been completed. The drive from the builder's office to our property is one hour and 15 minutes. After a quick "facilities" stop at Dad's, we arrive at the house around noon.

Here's a reminder view of the floorplan.

Here's a few of the photos of the interior. Now, it's really starting to feel like home. With the walls finished in drywall, we can now comprehend the actual size of the rooms.

Talk about a closely designed floorplan, check the distance between the edge of the door and the hallway wall!

Dave's Office

Although his office is small, it's large enough to do the job! We will probably open the "conversation window" after the final house loans are approved, which will give Dave even more view of the street by looking through my office.

The siding is complete except for the back porch wall. Here's a couple of photos of the back porch status. Love the ceiling and trim. It looks so nice and finished! We will install a ceiling fan with a light fixture in the porch.

We were only in the house about 30 minutes when the electric company showed up with three trucks to install the underground wiring to the house. They had parked two of the larger trucks close together on opposite sides of our tiny street, which left no room for Dave and I to drive between them. So, before they set up the cherry-picker truck, we asked them if they could move so we could leave. We decided not to stay for the installation as we still had a few errands to run before going home: eating lunch at Dad's, stopping by the post office, and shopping for groceries.

As you can see, progress on the house has filled our dumpster.

Brad was on vacation over the Labor Day holiday. But, unfortunately, he got sick halfway through the trip. We understand that Ritch (electrician) and his family have the flu as well. We wish them all a speedy recovery!

The subdivision is having their annual business meeting / potluck dinner on Sunday, which we plan to attend. We look forward to getting to know some of our neighbors.

Installing the cabinets is the next task. However, the cabinet maker was on vacation this week. So, at this time, we are not sure which day that will begin. Certainly not on Monday. As of now, we'll sit tight and wait for Brad to give us a heads-up on when to return.
