Project Day 95 - Installing the Flooring

Dave and I headed to the property this morning to view the flooring installation. I am anxious to check out the color of the laminate. We stopped at McDonald's for our obligatory biscuits and headed out.

Brad spent an entire day out at the house on Wednesday cleaning up the house. There are those annoying mud mounds that come in on the workman's shoes, sheetrock mud that seems to ooze onto items it should not, windows that needed to be scraped after the painting, picking up trash, and verifying that everything is complete and professionally done. I believe he arrived at the house around 8 AM and didn't leave until well after 6 PM. When we arrived this morning, you sure could tell he had been hard at work. Everything was clean and swept (sweeping alone must have taken him 3 hours or more).

Brad had assigned homework for me to do. I was to create signs for each entry door that stated "NO SHOES" inside the house. So, I set out with my creative juices and came up with these signs. Certainly they are more exciting that just "NO SHOES."

Here's a little tour of the house...

I tried out the instant hot water tap. It's so hot, steam rises like a geyser. I poured some water into that blue plastic cup and almost melted it.

The microwave is a new design. Instead of a circular turntable, it has a rectangular glass bottom plate. This plate moves left to right for even heating, instead of in a circle. Unlike with a turntable, you can put a 9x13-in. casserole in this microwave. Looks like a cool feature. I'll let you know how it works out.

The ceiling fans in the dining room and living room are transplants from our Hoschton home. Because the budget is getting squeezed, we brought them along and re-installed in our Hoschton home the type of lighting that was originally included. At some point, I hope to get matching fans for these areas that are open to each other. But, that's a budget for another era.

Guest/Dave's Bathroom

We have our first perk--working toilets INSIDE the house.

Dave and I set up our observation station on the porch and enjoyed the quiet view of nothing but trees. How much more relaxing can it get!

Notice that the siding is now finished around the doggie door.

LD came over for a chat. Around 12:30 PM, I called Brad to let him know that the flooring installers had not yet arrived. He stated that they came from a far distance and were probably running late because they had to load the truck. At 1:30 PM, we three decided to head out for lunch. I had a hunch the flooring installers were not going to show this late in the day. So, we thought if they were not here by the time we got back from lunch, we would leave.

We stayed quite a while at Dad's eating and visiting. When we returned to the house around 3 PM, the flooring folks were not there. So, we headed out and informed Brad that they were a no-show. Brad wasn't too pleased that they neglected to inform him they were unable to come out today, especially because we sat for 6 hours waiting for them. They are to come tomorrow so that they can be finished on schedule and not impact other tasks in the building process. I know that rain is expected on Saturday. Not sure if they'll be able to ascend the slippery slope!

Dave has the utility trailer all loaded with some fencing from the Hoschton house. We had planned to bring that up tomorrow, but now with the rain expected and the flooring folks needing the flat part of the driveway, not sure we'll be able to tote the trailer up here.

As of now (but the weather could change the schedule), we are to bring the RV to the house on Monday. Dave will back up the driveway to be sure the trailer's rear bumper or sewer pipes do not drag on the driveway.

So, in the next edition, I'll fill you in on the results of the RV test. Until then, be blessed!
