Project Day 80 - Selecting Mirrors and Measuring Closet Inserts

Today I met with Brad and Dawn (closet and mirror vendor) to measure for mirrors in the two bathrooms and the inserts for the closets.

When I arrived, the garage door had been installed. We chose a dark brown to match the shutters and just to have something a little different from the "norm." We weren't sure if it would be too "out there," but we had been told that dark colors tend to blend to the "back," as opposed to white colors that come "forward." Although in the following photo, you cannot see that concept, it works when we view the entire house front. (As soon as the electricity is hooked up and we can easily shut this door, I'll take and share more photos.)

In addition, Brad installed all of the hardware on the doors. As you can see, the garage door opener is lower than normal, for easier access from a wheelchair (just in case).

The keypad for the exterior garage door opener was not installed, so they will have to come back out to install that.

I wanted to meet with Dawn because I have an ornate mirror that I want to use in the master bathroom. After discussing options with Dawn and Brad, we decided the best location for the ornate mirror would be over the sink instead of the vanity. If it were over the vanity, I would have to look around ornate edges while I'm trying (mind you, trying) to primp. To give the "plain" vanity mirror some elegance, Brad and Dawn suggested that adding a beveled trim might do the trick.

In addition, the interior of the house has been painted. Naturally, paint takes on a different look according to the light in the room. So, here's two photos that show those different looks. I guess the "real" color is somewhere between these two hues.

As you may remember from a previous blog entry, Brad worked diligently to remove the front facade from the bar in the kitchen. He instructed the painting crew not to repair that portion of the bar as the cabinet maker (DJ) was creating a piece to cover the end and it has already been measured for construction. As you can see, they didn't heed Brad's request. So, now he has to once again remove that facade. Brad was not a happy camper!

DJ is also making a cover for the exposed range vent, which is shown in the following photo.

After Dawn completed her closet measuring, Brad gave me the keys to the house and the electronic garage door openers. I was sorry that Dave missed the handoff, but he's not pouting too much. He is being a good patient as he "good-humorly" harasses the nurses who are sticking, prodding, and measuring him hourly.
