Project Day 42 - Pouring Cement for Porch & Stoop, and Running Electrical Wiring

A little slow moving this morning. But, after our habitual stop at McDonalds, we arrived at the property at 9:45 AM.

The flashing was already installed around the perimeter of the porch.

The cement crew was putting felt around the perimeter of the front stoop. They filled the cement blocks that are at the front of the stoop and the door into the porch (from the outside) with chipped blocks to reduce the amount of cement that would ooze into the opening in the blocks.

Meanwhile, inside the house Ritch and Andy were pulling wiring for the electrical outlets.

The door company arrived with the corrected front door. It seems the door frame had been cut to accept hinges on both sides. So, Brad had to order a new one, which arrived today. Brad installed the new door and frame with a little help from the door guy--but Brad did most of the work.

Brad suggested to Dave that the 30 AMP circuit that we are adding for the RV be moved from the front area on the outside of the garage to the outside rear of the garage. This should make plugging in the RV a little easier. Since we drew up the plans, we had come to realize that the RV will be pushed back further on the property (another change due to the slope of the property). But neither Dave nor I thought about having to move that plug. Again, thanks Brad for thinking of the important details. Here's Brad and Dave deep in discussion.

Around 10:30 AM, the cement truck arrived and drove around the side of the house (where the RV will be located in the future) to get to the porch. Here's a series of pictures about the cement pouring, smoothing, and finishing.

Ritch, Andy, and Brad headed out for lunch, while Dave and I stayed to watch the more of the cement work on the patio and front stoop. Here's a few pictures of the front stoop being created.

Brad also decided to put a "temporary" vertical support on the opening that was created for access to the spa tub motor. He was afraid if he didn't add that little support, the installers of the drywall would not cover the opening.

Brad also worked on putting in the plugs that go over the screw holes in some more of the windows. And, he finished up by removing all the "stickers" from the windows and scraping the windows clean of all residue.

Dave and I headed out for lunch at Dad's.

We didn't stay long after we got back to the property as I had not felt well since yesterday. We left the building site before the final finish (broom finish) was put on the front stoop or the back porch. Also, Brad, Ritch, & Andy were still working on some finishing touches.

We did a quick swing into Walmart to pick up a few items and then it was "Home, James."

Tomorrow the Security System is to be installed and final electrical wiring will be finished up.

Wednesday the septic tank is being installed and the siding is being delivered.

Thursday the siding will be started. Brad said the siding installation would take approximately 4 days to complete.

That's about all for today. Until we meet again, pleasant dreams.
